Today is the day of our first meet, which also happens to be at Spotswood (versus Massanutten). We are both small teams so this meet may be the shortest meet of the season (if all goes well).
Very important detail: when you see Coach Liz today, wish her a happy birthday!
Before I get to meet information, a few items for this week:
Our team store is still open and collecting orders due by June 22 at midnight.

team picture make-ups are Friday morning.
Volunteers: we still have several spots to fill for tonight's meet.

Stroke & Turn: thank you all for completing the training! Please remember to wear the appropriate stroke & turn uniforms.
All volunteers: please bring your devices, fully charged!
Meet FAQs:
When do we show up and when can we leave?
Please arrive by 4:30PM. The meets usually end by 9PM. But, plan to stay for the home meet pizza party that starts as soon as the other team departs and usually ends by 10-10:15pm. If you choose not to stay for all, you are free to depart once your swimmer is completed his/her event(s).
What events are my swimmers in?
On the morning of this meet (and all future meets), I will send out the swimmer lineup. This lists the swimmers alphabetically and summarizes the events in which each swimmer will compete. It will be sent via remind and via email.
If you have questions or concerns about what your child is swimming, please communicate directly with Coach Alexis. Swimming items are her jurisdiction but she will make me aware of items on an as needed basis.
if your child was accidentally not entered into events or needs to change something, please know this is easily remedied with the swimmingly system at the event.
If your child is entered into a relay, and is unsure of the stroke he or she will swim then we will inform your swimmer upon arrival at the meet.
Juniors: please arrive by 5PM and check in at the scorekeeper tent. Juniors will race the shallow end around 5:45PM.
Swimmer's will be signed up for both individual events and possibly for also relays.
What is a Relay?
USA swimming includes many types of relays which include:
freestyle relay: 4 individual swimmers; everyone swims freestyle
medley relay: 4 individual swimmers; back, breast, fly, free
individual medley: 1 individual swimmer who swims all 4 strokes; fly, back, breast, free.
The VSL also has a graduated relay: this is a non-USA swimming event that allows larger teams to provide more swimmer's with a chance to swim. It tends to cause a slow start, but once we get through events 1-7 (all relays), the meet flow will start running swiftly!
Other meet info:
Before arriving (while the swimmer is dry), use a sharpee marker to write:
their event numbers on the top of their hand.
their swimmer number in tri-athalon style down their left shoulder. You can find their swimmer number on the swimmer lineup (in parentheses next to their name; on the fan app; on the sheets on the pool bulletin board). See attached files on the remind app.
Ex: my child Adrian is number 001. So I would write: S
0
0
1
Meet conduct: it is VERY IMPORTANT that all present follow proper protocol during meets. If you have a question or concern, you must voice it directly to our team Coach or to me as the meet director. Parents should NOT approach any other officials, such as representatives for the other team, stroke and turn officials, etc...
The weather will be potentially stormy and cooler. Bring extra clothes, towels.
Check remind for updates tomorrow!
