We have one more dual meet tomorrow at Massanutten. Information for that meet will be sent Tuesday morning. This email contains everything you need to know to prepare for the annual VSL Championship Meet (CHAMPS).

I say it every year: CHAMPS is one of my favorite days of the season because we get to watch a summer of hard work pay off for every swimmer and every team. That said, it is a large event and can be a little overwhelming, especially if this is your first time attending. The single best thing you can do to prepare is read the official CHAMPS Guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19o0G_S628RZn4a0TljQUVVWqqDOPZhCw/view?usp=sharing

Before Champs

🏊 Swimmer Declaration

If you have not already declared your swimmer, please do so today.

Simply log into Swimmingly, open the meet schedule, and declare your swimmer for CHAMPS.

Please note: We use Swimmingly for declarations and creating our lineup, but once entries are finalized they are transferred into Meet Mobile, the system used during CHAMPS at JMU.

There is a strict VSL deadline for entries. Any lineup changes after the deadline result in a $50–$100 fee per change, charged by the VSL. Thank you for helping us avoid those unnecessary costs.

🏊 Team Practice at JMU:

Each team receives one practice session at the JMU pool before CHAMPS.

Our practice will be on Thursday, July 307:00–8:00 PM

This practice replaces our regular Thursday evening practice at Spotswood, so please adjust your calendars.

👕 Champs Apparel Orders

CHAMPS T-shirts and other apparel are available for purchase at the meet.

🙋 Champs Volunteer Sign-Up:

Volunteer assignments at CHAMPS are determined by team size. While our assignments are relatively small, they are essential to keeping the meet running smoothly.

We still need volunteers for:

  • 2 AM Timers (Shift starts with timer meeting at 8:30AM)

  • 2 PM Timers  (Shift starts with timer meeting at 12:30PM)

  • 1 AM Gym Announcer (from 10:15am-11:30AM)

  • 1 AM Heat Ribbon Distributer (9AM-11:30AM)

  • 1 AM Stroke and Turn Judge (Shift starts with timer meeting at 8:15AM)

  • 1 PM Stroke and Turn Judge ( (Shift starts with timer meeting at 12:15PM)

📖 Heat Sheet Ads

If you purchased a heat sheet ad, please upload your completed ad by the posted deadline. If you still wish to create one, please inquire or submit ads by today! I will compile our team's ads into the required full-page submission for the VSL.

If you need help creating or uploading your ad, don't hesitate to reach out, I'm happy to help! [Insert Heat Sheet folder link]

Please arrive at Ashby by 5PM. The address is: 250 Anaconda Wy, Bridgewater, VA 22812 The entrance to the pool is a one way in, one way out loop. Please follow directions! There is ample parking at this location. Ashby will have a snack bar open with a delicious menu as well. Once you arrive you can bring your stuff inside and check in with the coaches. Remember to have your swimmer number already written on the upper arm, and to have your swimmer's event written on the back of their hand. The heat sheet has been synced to the FAN app. You can also view the heat sheet and swimmer line up by name here:

We are VERY SHORT ON VOLUNTEERS (and many people are on vacation, so if you have not yet volunteers NOW IS YOUR TIME), still needing:

After a late start to our most recent swim meet (and a number of canceled practices) due to thunderstorms, we had another great, albeit very wet, meet! Spotswood hosted Westover and, despite the rain, came out strong. A few meet shout-outs include:

  • Maggie Kistler swam a very swift 25y Fly, placing 1st!

  • Avery Gogia dropped over 4 seconds on her 25y Backstroke

  • Mac Davis, placed 1st on all of his individual events

Our Golden Dolphin of this week's meet was Frankie!

Frankie has been working so hard this summer. This past week, she placed 1st in the 50-Free and dropped nearly 2 seconds on her IM. Frankie is a joy to have on the team. Congratulations, Frankie!

Today at Fun Friday practice, we had a great time with relay races. Thank you to the Graves family for providing bagels! We also celebrated our swimmers of the week, Fielding & Clar!

Fielding always comes to practice with a smile on his face. He is helpful and caring to his teammates and a great leader. This past week, he placed 2nd in the 50 Fly and 3rd in a very competitive 50 Free.

Clar comes to practice each week, her attendance is wonderful! Plus all the hard work has really paid off. Clar successfully competed this past week in her first 100IM, even though she really didn't want to swim it! Clar is amazing with the little swimmers and has a very sweet heart!

Looking ahead to our next meet, plan to be at Ashby on Tuesday (please remember to sign your swimmers in/out). The Davis family will be out of town and will miss you! Please direct any questions to coaches or Hilary. Have a great weekend!
