It is truly hard to believe that this is the last week of our 2024 summer swim season. There is A LOT of information this week so please read on. There will be one final update next week for season wrap up.
1)_The schedule this week is packed! We haven't had to worry much about weather this season, but the forecast for this week is more rainy/stormy, so pay close attention to remind/text messages. We will make the call for each practice by 9am and 5pm respectively. If you don't hear from us, assume practice is ON!
Tuesday: normal AM practice; PM Swim-a-thon (see #2 for details).
Wednesday: normal AM practice; PM practice at JMU Godwin from 7-8PM (see #3 for more info).
Thursday: normal AM practice; PM End of Season Celebration & Pool Party (RSVP below at #4).
Friday: normal practice/FINAL FUN FRIDAY and bagels!
Saturday: CHAMPS AT JMU (see #5).
2) Swim-a-thon details:
-Please plan to arrive at normal practice time, 5:45PM. The event end at 9PM. -We have about 30 swimmers participating in the lap swimming. With this quantity of participants, we will modify the original swim schedule and have all age groups together, separated by lanes just as in practice.
-We will also need parents/volunteers there to stand by and count the lengths for each swimmer/lane.
-Even if you didn't plan to participate in the swim or didn't fundraise - all swim team families are welcome at the swim-a-thon to cheer others on, socialize and enjoy the event.
-We will have water and food (sandwiches, chips, fruit, rice krispie treats, etc...) for all those participating, as well as full size candy bars for each swimmer as a reward.
-Families that raised money should turn in their forms to us tomorrow so that we can account for the necessary prizes per swimmer. Prizes will be distributed at the end of season celebration (see #4)
3) Wednesday Evening Practice at JMU Godwin Hall: each team is assigned a date and time to practice at the Championship venue. This is a great time to familiarize your swimmer with what will happen. Champs can feel overwhelming to some, BUT IT IS ALSO FUN! We are experts at shepherding any nervous swimmers through this event, and can assist if you let us know. Attending this practice is a fantastic way to help your swimmer(s) feel comfortable. NOTE: you can park at JMU without ticketing concerns for these events!
4) End of Season Celebration:
We will meet in the SCC Clubhouse ballroom at 6PM. Dinner will be provided (not pizza) and we will close out our season with a short ceremony of information and awards. Weather permitting, we will then migrate to the pool for night swimming. If you could please RSVP (either yes or no) so taht can plan accordingly, please do so by clicking here: https://sccdolphins.wufoo.com/forms/dolphins-end-of-season-celebration-rsvp/
5) Champs Details: There is a ton of info on our website about champs! I will send another update about champs on Thursday, but the most important part today is that we need to fill volunteer roles (2 AM timers, 2 PM timers, 1 PM runner/ribbons, 1 AM relay take off, 1-2:30PM gym announcer; AM session hospitality; 1 AM Stroke & Turn; 1 PM Stroke & Turn; 1 AM Clerk; 1 PM Clerk; Team Photographer (optional).) https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094EAFA623A6FC1-42971366-2024
6) Coaches Gifts: our swim team budget is quite small, and each year parents generously donate money that goes specifically toward paying our dedicated junior coaches, as well as bonuses to our main coaching staff. Please venmo @Spotswood-Dolphins to contribute. ANY amount makes a significant difference to our limited budget and helps us reward and retain coaching talent from year to year!! If you have other non monetary ideas for gifts, please contact Hilary.
More to come on season info later this week and wrapping up next! Remember to text with questions or concerns! I cannot help with anything of which I am not aware!!
Go Dolphins!
Hilary :-)
